My Spiritual Path

26 09 2010

On the  exercise bike at the gym is where I do the most of my thinking about blog ideas. The most recent thought I was working on is about my path into spirituality. You can substitute the word metaphysics in place of spirituality if you’re one of those folks who are not fond of spirituality talk.

But my path into spirituality started back in my teenage years. I went to an all male military high school. Since most of the students didn’t live locally, we all had to stay in dormitories, which lended to making good friendships with fellow classmates.

So, during a holiday break one of my buddies invited me to stay at his parents home in Evansville, Indiana. I was excited to get out of school for a while and excited to visit another city beside my home town.  Barney (buddy) spent most of holiday exploring Evansville and we happened to wander into a metaphysical store. I had never seen such place before and was intrigued with all of the funny books, candles, incense and various other wild items. I knew that there was something about this store that I wanted more of. Just didn’t know what I wanted and with limited spending money my experience would be just a brief taste.

So, I settled on a small poster of my astrological sign, Scorpio.  This poster was a line drawing of some made up cartoon character, but the real gold was the description of a person who is born in the sign of Scorpio.  As I read this paragraph I knew that this description fit me in some strange way and I wanted more. If someone could figure this stuff out about people by their birthdate then there could be more information that could benefit me.  There had to be more information out there. So,  I got hooked on astrology for a while.

Astrology was the beginning for me on my spiritual path.  Oh there’s more to my spiritual path and I’ll tell you about it. Wait till you hear about physic’s and a spiritual church.  Those stories will come.

But, I had to write down this story and share it with you. It makes me wonder how other people got onto their Metaphysical (spiritual) paths.

And, now the timer on the bike has run out. I got to get cleaned up and get back out into the world.
